Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass:

Bass fishing remains steady on one to four pound fish. The water has come down five feet in the past week resulting in the Shad pulling out of the backs of the coves as the rocks that were covered in their food source, algae and moss, were left high and dry with the receeding water. The baitfish haven’t moved far as they have transitioned from the bank to the sticks and bushes in the middle of the coves and main lake shorelines. “Wolf packs” of quality Bass continue to feed heavily on Shad and Silverside minnows in the areas where the bait is prevelant. Live Shad and Silversides are accounting for all of the bites for my clients. Vertically jigging with ice jigs, kastmasters and flutter spoons are getting the attention of the deeper Bass, as well as casting the same baits and retrieving them thru the suspended bait schools. The weather turned ugly over the weekend but that didn’t keep Castaic legend Jay Poore and his team partner Kevin Jones from putting a seventeen pound limit on the scales to win a National Bass West tournament on Saturday.

Striped Bass:

The Striped Bass we found were twenty to fifty feet deep in the Fish Arm. We had some quality bites trolling green over white Producer Flies and 661 KastMasters about thirty feet deep on leadcore line for linesides to seven pounds, especially during the first hour of the morning. No surface activity to report as the bulk of the big schools have yet to make it into the coves and creek arms.

Castaic Afterbay:

Fishing the deep weed edge of any weeds you can find with a Neptune Shad colored C3 Baits Shimmy on a Carolina rig will be productive. The dropoffs and ledges hold fish as well. There are some bigger Bass being caught for those with patience and know-how.
