High winds, brush fires, power outages and freeway closures had the lake closed off and on all week. When we were able to get out we resumed the wide-open live shad fishing for Largemouth and Smallmouth averaging two to four pounds.

Largemouth Bass fishing continues it’s strong Fall pattern. Topwater lures, finesse baits and live Shad are all productive techniques, allowing anglers to choose their favorite way to go about catching quality fish to five pounds. Lucky Craft Gunfish and weightless Zoom Flukes have been our best topwater lures.

We are fishing these baits from 15 – 30′ deep on main lake points and cuts. Water temps were up to and over 80° as mid-week temps were in the triple digits. Netting shad for bait has been hit & miss this week with most guides choosing to spend their time chasing Stripers rather than trying to get bait.

The better concentrations of fish remain in the 15-30′ depth range on main lake points and bluffs in both arms of the lake. Water temps are hovering around the 80 degree mark and the lake’s algae bloom seems to be past us as the water has cleared significantly.

The mornings have been our targeted time frame so there isn’t a lot of intel on the afternoon bite, with most anglers choosing to get off the water before the thermometer reaches triple digits.There is a small window of topwater action first thing in the morning with small popping baits getting a few bites, but anglers are finding frustration while emptying their tackle boxes to get the attention of bass that are keyed in on the small glass minnows.
