Striper fishing was strong this week with 3 – 6 pound linesides available in the first few hours of the morning and the last few hours of the day. We have been trolling our custom 661 Kastmasters on lead core line while we search for surface boils.

The mornings have been our targeted time frame so there isn’t a lot of intel on the afternoon bite, with most anglers choosing to get off the water before the thermometer reaches triple digits. There is a small window of topwater action first thing in the morning with small popping baits getting a few bites, but anglers are finding frustration while emptying their tackle boxes to get the attention of bass that are keyed in on the small glass minnows.

Striper fishing continues to get better every day. This week we saw our first boils of the year with big schools of 4-6 pound fish crashing small shad in the main lake over deep water. We are using Lucky Craft Gunfish in any color that has a white belly for the surface attack.

Castaic Fishing and Lake Conditions – 06/29/2019

Castaic lake continues to be the hub of summer activity. Fishing on the weekends can be an exercise in patience so it’s best to allow yourself a little bit of extra time when heading up to the lake. The water clarity is twenty feet plus in most areas and water temps are holding steady in the mid – 70’s. The bass continue to bite and we’ve noticed a little bit of an uptick in quality fish roaming shallower water. No doubt one of the best ways to catch these fish is with a wacky-rigged Senko type bait.

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

The lake is holding about five feet from full pool and the release of water into and out of the afterbay has ceased. The water in both lakes is clearing rapidly with the onset of high pressure and high air temps with surface readings at the upper lake reaching 72 on Friday. The overall bite has ramped up with the smaller largemouth still dominating the counts.

Largemouth Bass:
The lake is about five feet from the highest point ever and holding despite the on-going release of water from the afterbay into the Pacific Ocean. The weather has once again been a factor as high winds closed the lake off and on for several days. The post holiday forecast is looking great with temps in the 80’s and abundant sunshine. This will help warm the water up and should bring a new wave of bass into the shallower areas. Small fish continue to dominate the counts however we are seeing more two and three pound fish lately.

Castaic Lake Fishing Report 5/13/19

The lake is currently three feet from full pool. The weather has once again kept the water from warming much, if any. The bass continue to be caught in the deeper rocky areas, bluffs and walls leading into spawning coves.  Our best action is in 10-20’ of water in the Fish Arm of the lake.

Castaic Lake

Largemouth Bass:
The lake is currently eight feet from full pool. Water continues to be released from the Main Lake into the Afterbay and then over the Afterbay spillway into Castaic Creek. This has been going on for two months straight. Water temps have yet to stabilize and the quality fish are spawning deeper than usual.
