Tried and true methods and ones you may not have tried yet to catch bass in beds.
Bed fishing can be very exciting, especially when you can see the bass inhale your bait right in front of you. When the fish haven’t been caught on a bed, they can be very aggressive.
After the fish have seen a few baits or been caught once or twice, they will become conditioned and therefore harder to catch. In those situations, it’s time to think outside the box. Here are three baits you may not have tried when fishing bass on beds.
Micro Jig and Bobber
This technique suspends the bait above the bed or on the bed and keeps it in the zone easier when no wind is present. The Thingamabobber allows you to peg the bobber anywhere on the line so you can suspend the jig off the bed at any given height. We like to suspend it 1-3 inches above the bed for the best results. They just can’t resist it’s subtle movement right in front of them.
Lipless Crankbait
Using a craw or bluegill pattern lipless crankbait can be very effective due to its noise making ability. All those rattles in the bait will produce enough attraction that big mama has to pick it up. Simply cast it onto the bed and lightly shake it without moving it off the bed.
Larger Bluegill Swimbaits
Bass despise bluegills around their beds since they pose a major threat to their eggs and fry. When nothing else works, bigger baits can trigger a strike. We suggest adding a small treble hook on the tail just in case they miss the front hook. Typically, 12lb fluorocarbon line rigged with monofilament crimps is the best way to add the treble hook.

Recommended bed baits that are tried and true. White, craw, or more colorful baits are your best bet.
