Castaic Lake Fishing Report 09/05/2021
Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass
Most of the Bass have made their way out to main-lake points and rocky shorelines bordering deeper water. Wacky rigged 5″ Senko’s and dropshot rigs are producing good numbers of fish to three pounds, with some bigger fish taken on the Carolina rig fished as deep as thirty feet. Quality topwater fish are available to those covering lots of water with smaller walking baits and buzzbaits. Lots of fishing pressure and recreational boat traffic lately with nearby Pyramid Lake being closed.
Good fishing for anglers Fly-coring with Yak flies in the forty foot zone. Lots of smaller Stripers and Largemouth Bass in the shallower depths. Umbrella rigs, small swimbaits and Kastmasters will get you into the schoolies in a hurry. Center Point, and the East side of the Ski Arm continue to hold the bulk of the fish. Vertically jigging six to eight inch flutter spoons is producing some Stripers to nine pounds although the overall bite for the bigs slacked off a bit mid-week.
C3 Baits Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad color pattern fished on the 6lb. Carolina Rig continue their dominance. This is a hard presentation to beat, as the Bass tend to slow their activity level once the sun gets up. The outer weed edge in 20 to 25 feet of water along the Eastern shore continues to hold quality Bass to seven pounds, along with South end along the rocks. Their is a good bite on nose-hooked Flukes around the shallower weed beds when conditions are good, usually in the mornings and afternoons. We’ll be spending more time here once the swim beach closes and the Holiday weekend passes.
