The Shimano Stradic spinning reel has been a staple for as long as I can remember.  The first one I remember fishing was the white one with the wooden handle and it was awesome back in the 90’s.  Today’s Stradic spinning reel is a different animal with increased smoothness, lighter weight and features that give the angler more torque to bring fish in quick.

 Shimano Stradic FM

Shimano came out with the Stradic FL in 2019 and it has been a great selling reel for us ever since.  As usual however, Shimano has updated the FL with the FM and we like it even better.  The previous version FL had some really good features, but Shimano has taken technology from more expensive reels like the Stella and brought them down to the Stradic FM model.

The major advancement to the FM features trickle-down technologies from Shimano's flagship Stella reel. InfinityXross gear tooth design increases surface contact, spreads load out over a larger surface area, and enhances efficiency and durability.  Working along with Hagane cold foraged gearing and MicroModule II, the gearing not only feels remarkable with every turn of the handle out of the box but continues to feel the same way for years of use to come.

The new Anti-Twist Fin adds an extra layer of protection, minimizing the space between the bail arm and roller.  This piece works to alleviate any slack line from wrapping around the spool and keep the line more elevated, ready to take a fast hookset. With additional technologies feature packing this reel for optimal performance, it is no wonder why this reel sits atop a true favorite among light tackle anglers, whether salt or fresh.

With these new features and technology, the new Stradic FM will be effective on small trout using the 500 or 1000 size reel, bass using the 1000 or 2500 size, or stripers, snook, and surf fishing with the 3000 size and larger.  We like the connected feeling the reel give us in our hand as well as the durability which will give this reel many years of trouble free use.  The better the bearings and gears are supported, the longer the reel will feel smooth and the bigger fish it will handle.  Built ready to meet new challenges and accomplish the day, look to the Stradic FM to be your favorite option in your arsenal.
