Castaic Lake Fishing Report – 09/13/2020
Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass:
Bass fishing was strong again this week despite smoky skies making it hard to stay on the water for very long. Bass continue to chase Shad early and late in the day in deeper water near the main lake. Topwaters, Flukes and small swimbaits are good choices around the shade lines. The middle Ski Arm and Elizabeth Canyon are good areas to try. Once the sun gets on the water the Bass go deeper and finesse plastics are pretty much the only option. We are one of the only boats still fishing live Shad every day and the bite is fast and furious.
Striped Bass:
Stripers were pretty active this week, unfortunately most of the surface action was on the other side of the forebay buoy line, out of the reach of most anglers. Trolling with Producer flies, KastMasters and a Fluke/Scrounger head combo put some nice fish in the boat trolling at 15′ to 25′. The best area continues to be the deeper water from Kong Island to Necktie Canyon, with the fish pretty much spread out all over the middle of the Ski Arm.
Castaic Afterbay:
Lots of Bass biting for those fishing finesse plastics on light line. Weed edges and drop-offs are good areas to target with the C3 Baits Shimmy in Neptune Shad showing why it is the premier bait for this lake. Those anglers putting in the time with a 1/2 oz Green Pumpkin jig are getting some quality bites as well.
