Castaic Lake Fishing Report 09/11/2022
Live Shad fishing continues to put up big numbers of Largemouth Bass with a few Striped Bass mixed in. Twenty fish or more per angler is common in a half day outing. Topwater walking baits, small Flukes, Dropshots and Carolina rigs will also work for those sticking with artificial presentations. The best areas continue to be the coves where fish are visually feeding. The bigger coves on East side of the Ski Arm and the East side of the Fish Arm are good places to start, along with the area between Kong Island and Necktie Canyon (Ski Cove).
Lots of surface action on the one to three pound “schoolies” as they are boiling on Shad schools in big numbers. Most of the action is in the Ski Arm. The area between Kong Island and Necktie Canyon (Ski Cove) has lots of willing biters along with the buoy line area at the North end of the Ski Arm. Small poppers with a feathered treble on the rear along with the Tiny Fluke/water bubble rig will get you into lots of action. We are still catching the occasional bigger Striper on live Shad while Bass fishing although they are still hard to target at this time. Cooling surface water in the weeks to come should bring them shallow making for what I think will be an exceptional Fall bite.
Surface temp 78 – 80 degrees
Water clarity 5′ to 15′ in most areas
Minor algae bloom
