Castaic Lake Fishing Report 07/31/2022
Largemouth Bass:
Bass fishing remained strong thru the week. The water has cleared up in most areas as the lake level rises or at least holds steady. Topwater fishing in the morning is very good with most fish averaging around a pound or two. Small Lucky Craft Gunfish and weightless Zoom Tiny Fluke’s are getting the attention of Bass chasing the one inch Shad that have turned up in huge numbers along the grassy flats and gravel shorelines. Otherwise, the standard offerings of 5″ wacky-rigged Senkos, Dropshot and Carolina rigged C3 Baits Shimmys and Roboworms continue to excel during the day.
Striped Bass:
The bulk of the bigger fish remain in deep water foraging on jumbo Shad. If you find them while they’re feeding, big spoons will get a bite or two. Trolling has yet to be effective as the fish have not been out in the main lake. Smaller fish continue to bite cut sardines up by the forebay buoy line with some bigger fish occasionally being caught. The offshore boils on the smaller fish have dwindled.
Water conditions:
Surface temp 79 – 82 degrees
Water clarity 5′ to 15′ in most areas
Minor algae bloom
