Castaic Lake Fishing Report – 04/11/2020
Largemouth, Smallmouth Bass:
The 5″ Senko and the Carolina rigged finesse plastics continue to be the hot presentations. Between the two we can target fish anywhere from 2′ – 25′ deep. The East-facing drop-offs and ledges are a good place to start as there are fish all throughout the depth range. Green Pumpkin/Black Flake and Watermelon/Red Flake Senkos fished weightless on a wacky hook are getting lots of bites. Quality fish are also coming on the C3 Baits Shimmys in the Scuppernong and Watermelon Candy patterns, fished on a 6lb finesse Carolina Rig in deeper water. The afternoons have been more productive as the water is at its warmest and the fish tend to be more active.
The Striper bite has been hit and miss with all of the rain and wind this past week. There were a handful of bigger fish caught for those braving the elements and throwing swimbaits like the BaitSanity Antidote and River2Sea S-Waiver. Trolling with the fly-coring/Producer Fly technique is getting a few fish although the biters are pretty well spread out. The fish that are being caught are heavy, pre-spawn models. This bite should improve daily as we head into May.
The improving bite is not a secret as more and more people are finding their way to the launch ramp of this small park lake. There are lots of big fish moving shallow as 661 Fishing bro-staffer Jeff K. found out this morning when he caught 5 Bass topped by an 11.2 pound pre-spawn beauty that fell for a dropshot RoboWorm in relatively shallow water. Try to avoid the weekends here as this lake doesn’t fish well under pressure.
