Lake El Salto Fishing Report 05/28/2022

This time of year agriculture demands have this lake at lower water levels, which congregates the fish onto the deeper structures. Every bait you tie on is bigger here with magnum Lucky Craft SKT120 crankbaits and 7-8″ soft swimbaits like the Scottsboro’s or Megabass Magdrafts, rigged on 10/0 Owner Beast hooks being standard fare.

Good Bass fishing continues here with most fish running in the one to four pound class. There is an afternoon reaction bite when the wind moves the Shad schools around. Small swimbaits and flukes are getting bit by some quality fish to four pounds. Otherwise, drop shot and Carolina rigs are producing in the ten to twenty foot zone on the outside of the weed line with the usual finesse plastics.

The bigger females are still on the break lines and dropoffs in the ten to twenty foot zone, mostly on rocky flats and secondary points leading into the backs of coves. Green Pumpkin Senkos, drop shots and Carolina rigs with just about any small finesse plastics have been effective. The upcoming full moon and some stable weather should help the overall bite improve in the coming days and weeks.

Bass are in different stages of the spawn with a few fish seen on beds, though most of the bigger females are still on the break lines and dropoffs in the ten to twenty foot zone. Rocky secondary points and transition areas leading into the backs of coves are holding lots of fish. Ten to twenty fish days are possible. Green Pumpkin and Watermelon 5″ Senkos, Carolina rigs with any of the Neptune Shad C3 Baits and dropshots with just about any finesse plastics have been effective.

Fish continue to move shallow and the bite has been good early in the morning for an hour or two. Once the sun gets on the water some wind definitly helps the action. The drop shot has been the best technique with the the more natural green and brown straight tail worms doing the most damage. keep a short drop on your weight, about four to six inches and drag it around the dropoffs in the ten to fifteen foot zone.
