Castaic Lake Fishing Report 04/24/2022

Bait fishing in ten to seventy feet of water with cut Sardines is still the technique being employed by most anglers right now as the Stripers are in various stages of spawning as well. Elizabeth Canyon and the forebay buoy line have been the hotspots again this week with fish of all sizes making up the counts. There are significant numbers of the smaller one pound fish and getting a bait past them can be frustrating at times.

Largemouth Bass:

Bass are on the move to spawning areas despite variable weather patterns thru most of the week. Fish are in different stages of the pre-spawn with a few fish seen on beds, though not many. A few days of stable weather should see fish commit to the two to ten foot zone. Most of the better fish are still hanging out around the break lines and dropoffs in the ten to twenty foot depth. Secondary points and structure transition areas leading into the backs of coves are a good place to begin the hunt. 5″ Senkos and dropshot rigs have been the most common approach with a few nicer fish being caught on underspins, flukes and small jerkbaits.

Striped Bass:

Bait fishing in ten to seventy feet of water with cut Sardines is still the technique being employed by most anglers right now as the Stripers are in various stages of spawning as well. Elizabeth Canyon and the forebay buoy line have been the hotspots again this week with fish of all sizes making up the counts. There are significant numbers of the smaller one pound fish and getting a bait past them can be frustrating at times. There has been a few larger fish to ten pounds caught on Zoom Flukes and Lucky Craft Pointer 100 deep diving jerkbaits at the entrance to some of the coves as they are following Shad that are making there way into the coves to spawn.

Lagoon:

Pretty solid bite as of late with most fish running in the one to three pound class. The drop shot rig along with wacky-rigged Senkos are good patterns to utilize. There are some bigger bass around the bushes and reeds in the upper end of the lake. The campground stretch and the swimbeach are holding lots of fish in the five to twenty foot zone.

Water conditions:

Surface temp: 63 degrees

Water temp at 20′ is 58 degrees

Good clarity with a light algae bloom
